Hi guys,

New to this club. Plan on taking the GMAT at the end of July. Question for you guys. Do you guys follow the answers given by the OG on the questions or is there an easier way to go about answering the questions. I noticed from my Princeton Review course that I took, almost every question has a much easier way of being solved compared to the OG. Any information would be appreciated.

I don't follow their reasoning behind math a lot of the time. If you know an easier way you can do it. There are no style points and no partial credit. You either get it right or you get it wrong...how you get the right answer doesn't matter. A lucky guess is as good as a brilliant solution.

In some cases there is an easier (or more sensible) solution to the OG-11 problems. Try searching or posting those questions on the Maths forum.

Thanks guys. Now how did you learn how to do the questions using easier methods compared to the ones provided in the OG. Is there any book I should take a look at?

I haven't really studied the underlying math too much outside of reading through the OG sections. I was an engineering major so for me the hard part to start with is trying to think simply about a question vs thinking in terms of advanced math (calc/diffies). A lot of them if you look at their solutions you can then see how they do it and a different way can come to you.

Like a lot of questions asked on here, it really depends on the person and what works for them. As long as you get the right answer then it works. If you have to count on your fingers then do it.
