The subject of C and D is the three genders. It sounds like the reason they were difficult to learn is that they resembled those of the Germans. In fact the subject should be the old English. It was hard to learn since it had three genders.

E is not a complete sentence, and be connected with the rest of the sentence with a "and".

Choose bt A and B. "resembled" seems wrong in (A). Thus I choose (B).

Tough one. I agree with Honghu's explanation and hesitated b/w A and B. I think B's active voice is better and more concise because A's past tense seems to imply that those genders no longer resemble those of the Germans which is not the case here.
