Unorthodox but quick rationale I used to solve in 1 min:

We don't know if A picked a novel (N) or a poetry (P) book, but we do know for sure that:
- if he picked N, B's chances are at least 59/79
- if he picked P, B's chances are at maximum 60/79

Both answers can't be right, so C and E are out.

20/79 could never be the case (we have at minimum 59 novel books). B intermediately out.
59/237 is way to low given that at least 59 out of 79 are novel books. A immediately out.

Only option remaining is D
