For n days p adults consumed = x$Per day per adult consumption =$$\frac{x}{np}$$$

For 4 days 3 person will consume = $$\frac{x}{np}$$*4*3=12x/np

Known: n days*p adults*$per = x Unknown 4*3*$per = ?

Plug in numbers:
n*p*\$per = x
5*2*10 = 100

Now, 4*3*10 = 120, this is our target

Scan the answers, we can eliminate A, B immediately because our huge number x=100 is in the denominator
C. 5*100 / 12*2 --> not an int, eliminate
D. 12*100 / 5*2 --> 120, keep
E. 4*2*100 / 3*5 --> not an int, eliminate

If p adults consumed food costing x dollars on an n-day rafting trip, then 1 adult consumed food costing x/p dollars on the n-day trip and (x/p)/n = x/(np) dollars per day. Therefore, 3 people during a 4-day rafting trip will cost:

x/(np) * 3 * 4 = 12x/(np) dollars
