The same to you, I dont understand why C is not correct? C seems to have no errors, but it is not the OA

I think it is E. C is close, but the placement of "On Earth" is awkward. It makes the sentence take on the meaning of something like, "On Earth, this is the surest indication, but on Mars it may be something else."

Also, the placement of "sunspot cycles" isn't ideal. The placement of "sunspot cycles" right before the comma could lead one to believe that "their trunks" could be referring to the sunspot cycles rather than the trees.

Do you know "their" in the final part of the sentence refer to "indications" or to "sunspot cycles"? I am very confused!

Yes E gave me some trouble. But I did not like 'earth of sunspot cycles'.
It is 'indications of sunspot cycles'.

ex: Students of United States high school XYZ...
In United States, students of high school XYZ...
I prefer 2nd one.

Yeah, I can also give you some example of we should rule out the middle man like that to make the sentence clear. but this case it does not applicable. So I must seek other way to explain why E is correct!
