Should I draw attention to/ talk about one bad semester I had in college? It was my third semester and I got 1 C in organic chemistry and a couple B- (one in statistics). However immediately after this semester I had a 3.7-4.0 in every semester after, including an A in organic chemistry 2 and a research course that included statistics again.
Unsure if it’s worth it to bring attention since my ending gpa was a 3.61 and there was a very obvious upward trend where I received academic awards etc!
Posted from my mobile deviceHi @jhri188,While your undergraduate GPA is strong, the dip in your third semester is a factor to consider. However, your subsequent performance demonstrates your ability to overcome challenges and maintain a high level of academic achievement.
Key Considerations:
- Contextualize the Dip: If there were extenuating circumstances that contributed to your lower grades, briefly explain them in your application.
- Highlight Academic Recovery: Emphasize your subsequent strong performance, including the A in Organic Chemistry 2 and the research course.
- Focus on Overall Trajectory: Demonstrate a consistent upward trend in your academic performance.
- Leverage Other Strengths: Your extracurricular activities, leadership roles, and strong GMAT score can mitigate the impact of the lower grades.
While it's not necessary to dwell on the lower grades, addressing them proactively can demonstrate your resilience and ability to learn from challenges.
