ONE MONTH - Kaplan Premier Book + OG Book or Veritas Prep On Demand???

ONE MONTH - Kaplan Premier Book + OG Book or Veritas Prep On Demand??? [#permalink] New post   Updated on: 16 Oct 2014, 20:25
I already registered for the test, but it is just over 1 month from now (cannot push date out). In doing mostly self-study in the 1 month period, do you recommend the Kaplan Premier Book + OG Book ($) or the Veritas Prep On Demand course ($$$). I read BB's Kaplan Premier Book review and he says it's a good starting point and has about 1 month's worth of materials. Would the Veritas Prep On Demand course be overkill since I won't actually have the time to look at all the materials??? I estimate I might get through half of it at best. (Full-time executive job, married, with 2 small kids.) What are my chances of doing self-study with Kaplan book + OG book and getting a 650+ score?

EDITED - Removed the SAT reference. Thought it was just easier to jump in and take a Veritas CAT for diagnostic without any prep work: 40Q + 30V = 600. I am seeking a 650-700 score.

Let me start by saying that SAT is not a good criteria to extrapolate how you would do on GMAT. Both are very different beast and the situation is different. During SAT you had Academic mode turned on automatically while for GMAT it is the last thing you have in mind as you already have a small family.

I would rather advise you join the magoosh course which would be better use of your time and resources.

I agree that the SAT is not a good gauge, and particularly that it was 20 years ago, but it was the last standardized test that I took...which is why I am trying to get some advice. Have you had experience with magoosh? I know people who took Veritas and had good results (which is why I am considering it).

Thanks for the follow up.

I am talking veritas prep right now and they have skill builder section, Actual lessons and then home work problem. I am not sure how much time you have to dedicate to GMAT studies but if you have one month and can devote 3 hrs daily- You won't finish the veritas prep. Their lessons alone are 27-30 hrs long (Total lesson duration) then you have to do the skill builder before the lessons and then home work problem after the lessons.

Then you have to take few practice cats for timing and pacing strategy. I believe that you have to be put in some real effort if you want to finish all that in one month- Hence My recommendation for Magoosh. Veritas is great but also time consuming :)
