Premises:
1. Ads do not need to communicate substantial information to increase sales.

2. They only need to attract attention.

Conclusion:
This works because it is more important that people know of a product than that they know something about it.

Assumption: For this reasoning to hold, the author must assume that people can retain memory of a product even when they have received little information about it.

Which of the following is assumed by the argument?

A. People can remember a product without having much information about it.
Correct: If people could not remember a product without learning much about it, then attention-grabbing ads with little substance would not work.

B. Advertisements, in their own way, function to improve people’s memories.
Wrong: The argument does not require that ads improve memory in general.

C. Attracting a potential customer’s attention is a simple matter.
Wrong: Whether attracting attention is easy or difficult is irrelevant

D. The advertising industry knows little of substance about the products it promotes.
Wrong: The industry's knowledge of products in unknown

E. Advertisements seldom tell the truth about a product.
Wrong: truthfulness is not discussed. We care about informativity vs the capacitu to retain attention.
