I did an in-person class at NYU for Pre-Calculus. Will be taking Statistics for Management 1 there, starting in February, and then Calculus 1 after that. Cost for classes hovers around the $500.00 mark for each. Wish I'd thought of CUNY - did not realize there would be such a price differential. I don't know if NYU offers online classes or not - never even occurred to me to check.

Wait, 500 per class at NYU?? Are you certain that's not per credit? That's cheap!

I'm totally interested in Stats. for Management I if it's just 500 bucks!

I am looking at my order form. Price tag is $475.00 for the class. 2 sessions - one starts 2/7, the other one at the end of February. Join the fun! Ha!

Yes, now that I think about it, the price at UCLA extension might have been $500 and not $250. For some reason I just don't remember. I do know that UCLA offers quarter-length courses, while Berkeley offers semester-length courses. I believe this might explain the difference in price, as fees for UCLA and Berkeley are generally pretty comparable because I think they are set by UC Reagents, and not by the schools themselves.

Anyhow, I don't think business schools care whether you take quarter or semester length courses for the purposes of additional academic experience.

I havent mentioned about an online class in my application. Is it even worthwhile to do a class at this point of time.

Also, personally for me, an engineer, finance and accounting will not be a challenge. I would prefer to take some psychology/managerial behavior classes.

Any thoughts

you're probably right that acct/finance/stats and ops won't be a big deal for you. (Acctg is different, however - it's not a math class, it's a language class.) If you want to take some psych or other social science class for your own interest and benefit, go for it. But these classes tend to vary an enormous amount, being much less standardized that your basic finance or acctg. And MBA programs have their own special spin on them. I somewhat doubt that these courses are going to be of direct benefit in your b-school curriculum, other than perhaps helping you to get used to the more qualitative aspects of work/study after your years of engineering.

If you have some reason to believe that your quant/academic skills are not up to snuff or that the adcoms might doubt your commitment, then it might be worthwhile to let them know. A simple email would suffice:

Dear Holder-of-my-fate: I am writing to let the admissions committee know that I have enrolled in "Bean Counting for Future MBAs" at Cheapest-Credit U. If you wish to see a transcript upon completion of the course - or any sort of midterm progress report - I am happy to supply it. Your wish, as always, is my command.

Hugs and Kisses,
