Hi, I live in a noisy neighborhood and am planning on taking the online GMAT from home. Has anyone had any luck using a noise canceling headset (non-electronic) similar to the one they give you in the test center and/or using a noise machine for background white noise? I know they do a 360 scan beforehand and say no gadgets/electronics, but since the headset is not electronic I'm wondering if they would allow it. Thanks in advance!

Hi. I doubt they will allow you to use headphones for at home test. First of all, it’s against the policy so you’ll have to request an exception (preferably in advance)
in part they will not be able to verify if it’s electronic or non-electronic, and it’ll just be a potential recipe for attracting too much a tablet attention, and eventually either not letting you take a test or canceling the score. The concern they have is that someone made cheat using headphones. 🤷♂️
Noise machine is an interesting question. you may be able to get away with it. 🤷♂️

If the sound is very distracting during some hours but you are still planning to give it Online, consider booking a time slot at a time of day (or night) that there is very little noise. You may need to plan your week accordingly to make sure you are fresh and alert for what may be an awkward exam time (i.e. 5 am).
