Online or offline course

Could somebody please help me decide whether to go for online courses or offline classroom training

Hello, this is a really personal choice depending on your own strengths or weaknesses.

If you feel you need someone to push you, someone to pace your study plan and also to answer your questions via a discussion you can opt for an online course. Some of us tend to do better if we have timelines over our heads to push us!
If you feel you can pace your own study plan and do not need someone to answer your questions then go for an offline course.

In general, offline programs are better for people who need discipline and structure, and online programs for those people who need on-demand instruction and would like to save on the time and effort to go to a training classroom. Would suggest that you first evaluate the features of the particular program(s) to see which one aligns to your needs.

Its purely depends on your profile. If you are a working professional and difficult to adjust your time better go with online or if you are a student and just gradution completed then go with offline course structure.

IMO online courses are better.There are many options available.
If you want to go for online coaching you can opt for a demo class for egmat, veritas or empowergmat and choose the one which suits you better.

You can take freetrial from online gmat classes providers and decide yourself if it suiits you .

It sounds like you're just starting out. Is that true? Have you done any studying so far?

If you're just beginning, then it would be a good idea to take a FULL-LENGTH practice CAT Test; you can access 2 for free from www.mba.com (and they come with some additional practice materials). If you want to do a bit of practice first, so that you can familiarize yourself with the general content and question types first, then that's fine - but you shouldn't wait too long to take that initial CAT. A FULL CAT takes about 3.5 hours to complete, so make sure that you've set aside enough time to take it in one sitting. Once you have those scores, you should report back here and we can come up with a study plan.

I'd like to know a bit more about your timeline and goals:
1) What is your goal score?
2) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
3) When are you planning to apply to Business School?

Hi! Classroom coaching, by its virtue of fixed timings, rigorous schedule, and predefined pace, would necessitate that you are disciplined in your preparation. It would also give you a group-study environment, wherein you are likely to find students who are as committed to making it work, as you are.

On the other hand, if you feel extremely self-motivated without any external intervention, then this benefit of the coaching classes would not appeal to you.

I’m glad you reached out, and I’m happy to help. While I agree that whether to take an online course or an in-person class is a personal decision, I think that if you are a motivated and disciplined studier, you may prefer an online course.

First, a self-study course provides greater flexibility than a class does. Rather than adhering to a preset class schedule, you can customize a study schedule to fit your needs. When learning about topics, you can speed up and slow down as necessary. If you understand a particular topic, you can breeze through it. If you don’t grasp a concept, you can drill that concept for as long as you need to before moving to the next one. Also, most self-study courses are cheaper than GMAT classes; courses usually cost between $200 and $500, while classes generally cost more than $1,000.

In addition to chatting with folks in this thread, spend some time reading through some of the  success stories of past GMAT students  as well as reviews of  various GMAT prep courses  to see what prep materials have worked for other test-takers.

Hi roshnib48, Welcome to GMATCLUB. You should dedicate 3-4 months is good enough to achieve your target score. You should start by taking a GMATPREP Mock. You can then know your weaknesses and can work on them. If you are willing to study dedicatedly for that period, you are sure to achieve your goal. I believe you may benefit from taking an Online GMATPREP course. If you are willing, there are some great GMAT prep companies that can help you with your preparation. In order to make an informed decision I would highly encourage you to go to their websites and try on their free trial and decide for yourself which one do you like better. You try out free access to EmpowerGMAT, Magoosh and TTP as they have great reviews on GMATCLUB. If you are looking for a good course in verbal, I would highly encourage you to consider e-gmat verbal online or the e-gmat verbal live course. They are both amazing courses especially designed for non-natives. They offer almost 25% of their courses for free so you can try out their free trial to decide which one you want to go for. Plus the e-gmat Scholaranium which is included in both the courses is one of the best verbal practice tools in the market. You can easily track your progress in that you can identify your strengths and analyze and improve on your weak areas. I must add that if you are particularly looking to discover and improve on your weak areas in Quant; a subscription to GMATCLUB tests is the best way to do that. They are indeed phenomenal and will not only pinpoint your weak areas but also help you improve on them. Further taking multiple mocks might help. Apart from the GMATPREP, Manhattan GMAT tests and Veritas Prep Tests in my experience have good verbal and Quant section and will certainly help you point out and improve your weak areas. Further another advantage of taking many mocks is to build up your stamina. Apart from the GMATPREP tests, taking practise tests of any major GMATPREP company ought to do that. I would also encourage you to purchase GMATPREP QP 1 for some great additional practice.
