The usage of "would" is not problematic in itself. We generally use "like" to compare nouns and "as" to compare clauses or modifiers. Because C uses "as," we need a verb, and "would" is appropriate for a hypothetical case. For instance, I might say "When I read Chinese poetry, I don't pick up the nuances that a native speaker would." In other words, if the person reading were a native speaker, things WOULD go differently.

To answer your query, the introduction of the verb "seem" in Option E alters the intended meaning of the sentence.

Besides, C is also needlessly wordy and indirect.
