Hello All! I am an American and was accepted to Oxford Said this year. I got rejected from 7 US schools (Booth, Kellogg, Wharton, Tuck, Yale, CBS, Haas) but had interviews at Booth, Tuck, and ofc Kellogg. My GRE was 313, GPA 3.1 in Accounting from US top 20 UG. Fairly heavy ECs (mentoring, board member of womens org, etc) and worked in Audit for 4 years and no name Consulting in 2 years. I'm planning on doing a functional pivot in Consulting/not looking for a major career switch.
My dilemma is that Oxford excites me. It's going to be unlike anything that I've ever experienced before and although Said isn't that high up the list, Oxford is still well regarded in the US. I am open to being in the UK for a year or two but ultimately do want to be back in the US. However, I also realize that US schools are ultimately the gold standard for an MBA, and I wonder if I'm making the wrong decision by going to Oxford. Of course a US school will have a much better network in the US. To reapply to American schools, I would most likely need to retake the GRE and apply to more "attainable" places in round 2 (Cornell etc). My heart says do Oxford for the experience and brand recognition, my mind says do the US for stability.
Can you guys please advise? Thanks!

Congrats on your Oxford Admit!
My cousin (from the US) has gone into another top-rated UK school - it surely made sense for his career goals pre-pandemic but it does not seem to be working all that great now. The challenge is/was that working in Europe or UK in this case, you get paid half of what you make in the US and consulting is pretty competitive so there is no guarantee you will get in (he got to the final round with at least one MBB but still no cigar). Now he is recruiting into tech in the US but he is a bit in an odd spot since most tech companies have on-campus recruiting programs and most new MBA's come in that way so recruiting off-campus as a brand-new MBA is not quite the usual path (which was news to me).
At the same time, the GRE and GPA you have are on the lower side for the Top 20 US programs. They usually like 320 and 3.5. I know it is not the same for everyone but you have 2 strikes against you with those quant parameters. Applying outside of the US, you are in an advantageous position and can buy more with your scores and profile than in the US because not many US folks want to be in the EU/UK. I would say you can get a better degree at the cost of recruiting ... OR if you want to reapply next year, you will need to get a 320 and preferably higher 325+ or definitely 700 on the GMAT to be competitive. IF that's not an option, then I would go to Said.
