I think when the adrenalin kicks in, you will find an answer to every question. So stay calm just make sure you have in mind the message you want to convey.

And share your true self....most of my answers were personal...except for the leadership example, I gave a professional one.

Hi All,

I am really unwell...so apologies before hand if I my feedback is a little long winded.

Had my interview day at Oxford yesterday. Thankfully I was in a slightly better state as over the weekend I was down with the worst cold virus and given the strain of travel etc etc, today I am bed bound feeling super horrible. But here is my debrief curled up on my sofa....

Arrived early for my 10.50 interview , met other candidates, quite a good turnout, must have been around 30+ of us.

Some of them had interviews with sector consultants, other with head of career services or director of the program, I am not sure if anyone had an interview with the adcom team. Although the adcom team were there to greet us at the beginning, and usher us to our interview room.

I had mine with a sector consultant from the insurance industry. Lovely elderly man.

After brief introductions he dived in with a big smile...."so tell me why are you here"...I cant remember exactly what I said but I believe I clarified the question, and gave a response. I must add my interviewer is very open ended he doesnt add much.

I had some pretty off the wall questions such as "if you are put in front of a wall what would you do", if you could go back in time, any place where would it be and why" , what are your core values... , "tell me a time when you had to challenge the norm and take an independent decision"

I also had some pretty standard ones "what will you contribute to the mba community", what will you do post mba...

At the end he asked me if I wanted to add anything to essay 2....and finally is there anything else I want to highlight not already mentioned.

I think overall it went well, of course I will always feel I could have said this better or that better post interview....but will just have to wait and see.

At the end of the day, the questions you get very much depends on the interviewer. Some of them got pretty standard Q's , refer to clearadmit.

Good luck and all the best.

Shamanth

The questions seem pretty interesting. Thanks for the brief.

All the best everyone!

I had my in person interview yesterday with a member of the adcom. It was pretty standard. What you do at your present job, why you want mba, why Said, where else you applied, what you bring to the class and so on. None of the behavioral questions like that of Shamanth. Personally, I am satisfied with the way it went. Now the wait begins..

Got another interview for IE next week. This one will be skype though. good luck, y'all.

Hi all,

I did my interview today in NYC. I interviewed with the Head of Admissions directly.
My interview lasts about 30-35 mins. It started with general questions, tell me about your job, what did you learn the most from your job, why mba, why Said. And then it gets to application-specific questions, so make sure you re-read your application thoroughly and think of possible questions from your app and be ready with the answer.
And there are some behavioral questions too;'tell me about a time...' type of questions.
tell me when you motivate others, tell me when you had a conflict..

If you indicate that you are applying to other school in the app, then you may be asked where are you in your app at school x, what are the similarities in these schools, etc.

I hope this helps. Good luck to the rest of you interviewing this week!

If you like it, then please kudo it :)

Hi All,

...... must have been around 30+ of us.

...
Shamanth

wow, 30+ on a single day? I wonder how many applied to Round 3.

There are two Oxford days, so say 70 interview in Oxford day.
There were three NYC interview days, 10 per day, so another 30.
three full days of skype interviews, say another 50.
So 150, about 75-100 will get offers?

Pretty scary indeed... it's either the acceptance rate in R3 is much lower than R1&2 or we're over-estimating the candidates.

Don't know about Oxford but Cambridge said it had 50 seats left in Its last round.
Total: Cam 150, Ox 250

Assuming both have the same proportion of intake in all rounds then Oxford will probably have 80-85 seats to fill in its last round.

By your calculation Sanjuro Ox is interviewing 100-120. So selection rate is 60-70%. (Which incidentally is the exact percentage I read elsewhere)

I read it somewhere that their overall acceptance rate is 25-30%.
- Interview shortlist: 50-60%
- Final shortlist: ~50%

I think its reasonable to assume that Oxford is interviewing 120-150 candidates in round 3

Interview done!

Wow! I had such a good time! Yay!

So, I got this sector consultant. Very sweet, friendly old man. The first five minutes, Skype was an absolutely disaster. Absolute fu##%$ing disaster. But I got him to dial into an alternative number and we got rolling!

He wanted to know about my goals, why MBA, why Said, what I can contribute, challenging experience, strengths, etc etc. Then he also asked me what would you do if you had half a day to go anywhere in the world. Then he asked how will I pick you in a crowd. He also asked if i have questions for him and if there is anything i would like him to know.

I loved the answers I gave him! Like Shamanth said, when the adrenalin kicks in, no answer is too tough!
