Re: Calling all McDonough MBA Applicants: (2017 Intake) Class of 2019!! [#permalink]
I am done with my interview. it was with a alumni based in India. Very conversational and open ended questions like tell me about your background, leadership experience, what have you learnt from speaking to alumni admissions committee etc, conflict with a supervisor, teamwork, why Georgetown, which other schools, how will you decide if you get an offer from all your chosen schools and some others.

Alumni was very nice to speak to and made me very comfortable. Overall a very good experience. Hopefully I did OK :-)!

Thanks everyone who shared their interview experiences here. In addition to what you have posted, I am re-posting here few good interview debriefs collected from previous McDonough discussions for those who are about to be interviewed.

Hi guys,
Here goes my first post in gmatclub.. :)

I got my interview invite on 17th Oct. Had my interview on 22nd..
It went for little more than 20 mins.. 22 mins to be exact.. (Not even 30 mins.. Not sure what to make out of it..)

Below were the questions:
1. Tell me something about yourself
2. Any example of professional Leadership experience
3. What are the professional challenges you faced
4. How do you work in teams
5. Example of working in Teams
6. What challenges you faced while working in teams
7. Which other schools you applied
8. How does McDonough compare with the schools I applied
9. Any leadership experience outside of work
10. Any questions for me

Fingers crossed...

And best of luck... Hope this helps..

I had my Skype interview on the 3rd with couple of interviewers - one MBA2 & one MBA1.
I think this was unique as I haven't heard anyone having couple of interviewers in a Skype call.

MBA2 was similar in age to me I believe - between 30 & 34. I am turning 34 tomorrow..:).

Questions:

1. Resume/Past work experience
2. Why MBA now, Why MBA from US & Why Georgetown
3. Most important question around my age and the proposition of an MBA considering I will be in a class with most students in late 20s.
MBA2 told me that even he had some difficulty in convincing recruiters about his age and his target function of IB but he was successful.
I was also informed that I wouldn't be the oldest one in the class for sure :)
4. Interests outside of work
5. A general question around what is the biggest risk to the Financial markets at this time.

Through out the interview Skype was behaving weird and they were unable to hear me intermittently though I was able to hear them perfectly alright.
But they were fine with it.

Hope that helps others - especially older applicants.

Blast from the Past: Interview debriefs of previous McDonough applicants

Samyak wrote:
I interviewed via Skype on the 15th of October.

I had many of the same questions you would face in a behavioral interview. The one that caught me up (and that you should plan for) was probably "talk to me about a recent article you read (about your career interest/passion)". I would definitely have something prepared for that since most other questions are usually pretty easily answered. I had luckily scoped through last year's thread and saw some instances where that question was asked and was prepared for it. I still had to adjust my answer because it was not asked in the same context which I was expecting.

Also, the interview focused quite a bit on the global experience that McDonough provides. I would think of any and all experience you have working with people of different cultures.

Hope this helped.

Interviewed y'day. I did not get any curve balls. Just plain ol style interview. But mind I got a second-year student.

Questions were standard and conversational.

Tell me about urself.
Why McD.
International experience and learnings.
ST, LT goals.
Questions about program? What you want to know.

The interview was about 26 mins.
I may have over-enjoyed the interview though. :-D
Now its time to wait.

ciao.

Blast from the Past: Interview debriefs of previous McDonough applicants

Just had my interview as well. Guess they had multiple interviews running simultaneously.
Very friendly lady. Very encouraging and interactive.

Question were:
Tell me about you?
Why MBA? goals?
Why McDonough?
Leadership style?
What would my junior say about me?
Best piece of constructive feedback ever received?
Feedback received from client?
Something about me which is not mentioned in my application?

And then I asked two questions ... one about the Jesuit heritage of the university and the other McDonough strongest selling point.

In short..great experience... nothing to be stressed about.

Recently had my interview as well. Similar types of questions as people have stated before. Personable interview, very conversational.

Tell me about yourself.
Walk me through your resume.
Why MBA/why now?
Why McDonough?
3 strengths your boss would describe you/1 weakness
International experience - how it impacted you
Leadership experience
What aspect of the MBA would you struggle the most
How do you stay up to date in your field
Questions for me

Had my interview before thanksgiving with associate admission Hubert. It was conversational and overall pleasant. Mostly standard questions-

Why McDonough
Why mba now
Long term short term goal
What can you do for our community
Global is our focus, how do you see yourself fit in?
Where else did you apply? How will you choose your school if all accepted?
Tell me a time of project leading
Tell me a time you face a conflict
Your weakness and strength
What advice have you received from your manager

I asked lots of questions and it ended at around an hour mark.

Hopefully good news follows.

I know a lot of you have conducted your admissions interviews, but has anybody done an informational interview with Dean Hubert? I have one soon and I was wondering what I should I expect. Thanks in advance!

Hello Applicants!!

Round 2 deadline is on January 5, 2017 and I am sure that everyone is getting ready to apply for Georgetown Full-time MBA program.

Please note that there is a video essay question part this year as well.
You all need to record a 1 minute video introducing yourself and upload the Youtube link on the application form.

For any queries regarding the application process please post on this thread.

Thanks
