In Anglo-American law, sui generis often means "falling outside the traditional [precedent, e.g.]" or "peculiar."

By the way BB, why does this post have tag "Absolute phrase" ? :? :) I think it would be good idea to introduce new moderators to GmatClub community by making highlighted posts pinned on the top instead of tags :)
