Pachi’s commute takes 30 minutes on average, and her average speed is 45 miles per hour. When she switches to the motorway under construction, her commute will be 1.5 miles longer, but her average speed will be 50 miles per hour. On average, how many seconds will she save?

It took me over 4 mins to solve the question but conceptually this is an easy one.
Let's break down the question
Step I - Understanding the question
The question gives us the speed and time for first route (immediately think we can calculate the distance) and the incremental distance and speed for route B. The question then asks us how much time is saved but in seconds if we take route B over route A.
Step II - Solve
From the data, we know we have the speed and time for route A. So we can get the total distance for route A. Once we get the total distance for route A, we can add 1.5 miles and we can get distance for route B. Divide that by the speed, we get the total time for route B.
1. 45 miles * 1/2 hr = 22.5 miles is the distance of route A
2. Adding 1.5 miles, distance of route B is 24 miles
Divide 24 miles by 50, we get the total time in hours
3. We need the savings in time so we subtract the time of route A with route B
1/2 hrs - 24/50 hrs = 1/50 hrs
4. Multiply 1/50 with 3600 to convert hours to seconds to give 72 seconds
