Fatigued..... here is modifying The cat. The idea is not all the times does -ed modifier modifies closest noun. In this example a necessary distance is created by the predicate between the modifier and the noun that it modifies.

Hi Divyanshu, if you could cite an official example, wherein the past participle phrase is modifying the subject of the preceding clause, it will be interesting to see.

Re: Past participle modifiers / Ved Modifiers [#permalink]
Below is a good example of this:

Q- Due to the slow-moving nature of tectonic plate movement, the oldest ocean crust is thought to date from the Jurassic period, formed from huge fragments of the Earth's lithosphere and lasted 200 million years.

A. formed from huge fragments of the Earth's lithosphere and lasted 200 million years.
B. forming from huge fragments of the Earth’s lithosphere and lasting 200 million years.
C. forming from huge fragments of the Earth’s lithosphere and lasted 200 million years.
D. formed from huge fragments of the Earth’s lithosphere and lasting 200 million years.
E. formed from huge fragments of the Earth’s lithosphere and has been lasting 200 million years.

Here "Formed is modifying ocean crust" even after some distance between them.

Hi Divyanshu, this seems to be an unofficial question.

I would be interested in an official example, if you could dig it out.
