I have read in
MGMAT book that we us "Past Perfect" when we need to clarify the verb sequence and I have no doubt in using it. But what I see while reading some good quality matter, NYT and Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri that they use "Past Perfect" relative to present time of consideration. I have by now used it only when some past reference, directly or indirectly can be made.
Could you explain why we use Past Perfect when simple could work also?
