Wood = 8 bunches, $$$ = $8
Therefore Wood = $1/bunch.
Paul gets $5 and Hong $3.

I smell a rat - It can't be that straightforward.

Oh Oh Oh

Now I know why Hong was smiling like that

Hong, theArch should pay only for his work (that he didn't do) instead of their work.

Total bunches = 8. Of this, theArch's share = 8/3.
(Ditto for Paul and Hong).

Thus, Hong got 3 of which 8/3 is his own responsibility. Thus Hong got 3-8/3=1/3 for theArch.

And Paul got 5 of which 8/3 is his own responsibility. Thus Paul got 5-8/3 = 7/3 for theArch.

Therefore, Hong's contribution for theArch : Paul's contribution for theArch
= 1 : 7
Therefore Hong should be given 1 and Paul 7.

[Hong, if you want, I wud stick to my previous answer (in which you get $3) and we can split the $2 extra benifit 50-50 :)]

"can't be determined"......Hong and Paul should fight it out :-D

Hmm Baner, if its "should" then we have an answer, but if its "would" then we need to know if Hong knows martial arts :)

So it can be determined in case of "should" but insufficient in case of a "would".

Almost a DS question :)

Hong and Paul should fight it out  :-D

I agree if paul has more dominance over Hong then he should get all the money or most of it.
better yet put it towards bribing a Harvard MBA admissions official to get each one enrolled ;)

Paul, Hong and thearch went for a picnic. When they were about to start the BBQ they realize that they didn't bring anything for fuel. So they decided to pick some twigs for fire. However thearch was being lazy so he said that he'd lie a little bit under the sun and wait for the other two to gather the woods. Some time later Paul came back with 5 bunches of woods and Hong came back with 3 bunches of woods. Thearch took out $8 and said that he's gonna pay for their work. Now the question is how much should Paul get and how much should Hong get?

I dont think Thearch would pay because he said he would "lie a little bit under the sun ".

I would like to remark 2 important things:

1) thearch is lazy as much as he is stingy (moreover, he's always out of money).
2) While Paul and HongHu were gathering the woods, thearch went for a walk in the nearest seaside resort. (look at the following photo witness)

 Sorry to drag an old thread back to life but I just have to say you guys are so funny. I've used that one dollar I earned with honest labor very well. Yes we caught our dream house the first minute it was put on the market and we offered full price immediately. But the house received FOUR more offers so we were asked to put in our best offers. I used game theory. Yes. ;) And we won by $178. :-D And thearch you can bet that $1 dollar from you had also played a very important role. ;)

Google is a powerful instrument indeed (as well as creativity!)
Sometimes we are so GMAT-ized that we tend to analyse whatever we see with GMAT standards, this time I tried to put a funny piece of the world into GMAT. :-D
