Hello to all,
I have a question that i need to solve and i need to know the process of how to solve it as well.
Here is the question:
An auto parts store is going out of business. They are selling off their remaining inventory of fuel pumps and radiators. The fuel pumps are selling at 20% off the normal price of ($87.50), and the radiators are 15% off the normal price of ($225.99).
If I have a spending budget of $5,000 and I buy 4 radiators, how many fuel pumps can o also buy?
remember to factor in the sales tax of 8.25%
15% of something is the same as 85% of it
20% of something is the same as 80% of it
1. find the total cost of the four discounted radiators + tax
2. subtract it from 5000 to get your left over cash
3. find the total cost of one discounted fuel pump + tax
4. divide the left over cash by the cost of one fuel pump (plus tax). The quotient will be the number you can buy.
1) .85(225.99)+.0825(.85(225.99)) = 1.0825(.85(225.99)) = 207.93
2) 5000 - 4(207.93) = 5000 - 831.76 = 4168.24
3) .8(87.5) + .0825(.8(87.5)) = 1.0825(.8(87.5)) = 75.78
4) 4168.24/75.78 = 55.24
55 is the number of fuel pumps you can buy
