The method is straight forward but the computations are cumbersome. Do we get to see these kind of question in GMAT test?

no. u need to put pen to the paper only to think by jotting down.. no real calculations that can't be done orally... of course, since u r nervous during the exam, u might end up writing 6% of 500 and stare at it for a few seconds before u realize what u r doing...

Hello to all,

I have a question that i need to solve and i need to know the process of how to solve it as well.

Here is the question:

An auto parts store is going out of business. They are selling off their remaining inventory of fuel pumps and radiators. The fuel pumps are selling at 20% off the normal price of ($87.50), and the radiators are 15% off the normal price of ($225.99).

If I have a spending budget of $5,000 and I buy 4 radiators, how many fuel pumps can o also buy?

remember to factor in the sales tax of 8.25%

Price of fuel pumps = 87.5 * 80/100
Price of radiator = 225.99 * 85/100
lets say a is the no of fuel pumps then,
(225.99*85/100*4 + 87.5*80/100*a)(108.25/100) = 5000
70a = 5000*100/108.25 - 225.99*13/20*4 = 57.59
or 57 fuel pumps
