I'm looking at applying to an MA in economics program at Mizzou where I'll take courses in applied statistics, econometrics, and mirco/macro theory. I feel like this is the best option to prepare myself for a PhD program. I also plan to take calculus I to III at a local community college.
Provided I can get a ~700 GMAT, would an MA in economics and taking advanced math courses improve my profile?
Hello!
You are absolutely thinking in the right direction. MA in economics is the right option for you.
If you want to go for the top programs then go for a master's degree, which will have lots of Probability theory, statistics theory, linear algebra, econometrics, research-based courses, accounting/finance/ economics seminars, improve your programming skills, work on SAS/STATA/LATEX/PYTHON etc.
If you can take your GMAT to 730+ with a MA economics or a Pre-PhD program such as
(click here), then you are well on your way to the top programs. You may also explore other such
opportunities..
Feel free to seek further clarification.
All the best!
