Below you will find up to date, most used PhD in Finance rankings for Top 25 worldwide.
For that purpose, we usually use

Naveen Jindal School of Management (The University of Texas at Dallas) rankings is based on journals specified by the authors of the papers. Only those papers that are published by authors from the business school of the University are counted in the rankings.
Some important information :
Time frame here used is last 10 years, from 2007-2017 so both rankings can be (somewhat) comparable.
ASU W. P. Carey School of Business Department of Finance rankings is ranked by number of articles published in the following journals: Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Financial Economics and The Review of Financial Studies.
Naveen Jindal School of Management (The University of Texas at Dallas) rankings is based on number of articles published in the following journals: Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics and The Review of Financial Studies.
We can spot right on, that
Stern Business School and
Booth Business School are placed as number 1 and number 2 in both rankings, meaning they are the best and most productive in Finance research.
The only ones outside of US that managed to show up in Worldwide Top 25 based on prolific research are London Business School (UK), Rotman Toronto (Canada) and Swiss Finance Institute (Switzerland).
Other than that, there are not much surprise on the list, but is worth noting that Fisher (Ohio State University) and Caroll (Boston College) do rank high in Finance research world, distinction that is maybe not common for their other academic departments necessarily.
