Hi,

I have taken gmat twice. The first time I Scored a disastrous 580(Q44, V27).
As it was no where near my target score of 740+, I decided to take time, prepare and write again.
Last month I wrote again but fell short of my target quite miserably. I scored a 660(Q49,V30).
I blacked out half way through my verbal, and everything started looking very tough to me. Though the first half of verbal went fine, I got stuck on a tough RC passage for 15 minutes. So I panicked and rest of the section went haywire.

Though I improved 80 points, I know it will not be the same to improve from 660 to 740.
Like many Indian IT GMAT takers, I am poor at verbal.

I'll really appreciate your views, I have to retake the gmat (in a month). Please advice what strategy should I follow.
I am looking for new material for verbal preparation. I have already finished manhattan gmat.
I have read that e-gmat verbal is really good for non-natives . Please advice on whats the best way to improve my verbal score.

Your views will be very helpful.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

There's one golden rule for all the competitive exams. It ain't over until its over. There can be many surprised while you take the actual GMAT as well. But you cannot let anything hassle you till you finish the exam. Train yourself to stay focused throughout the duration of the exam. That will be the key to success and nothing else. At this stage, you do not need any new material. All you need to do is believe in yourself that you can do it and keep your hopes alive.

Besides, here is something you can try. Take a mock test and time to finish the same in two hours. Post the test, spend the next 4-5 hours in analyzing your performance in the test. Go through each and every question and find out a better, smarter and a faster way to finish them. Take a note of all the points and make sure you apply them in the next mock test. Keep doing this consistently and we are hopeful your score will start moving towards your target score.

Hope the above tip helps. Do let us know if you would have any other specific question regarding gmat preparation and we would be happy to help. Wish you the best and do keep us updated on your progress.

You should focus on your verbal prep with the help of an online course or a private tutor. Also, it will improve your score if you start using an error log.

There are a few great verbal courses out there that are especially well suited for non-natives. I would say the best three are:

e-gmat
magoosh
