Please evaluate my profile

Question

Hi,

I hope you can evaluate my profile and assess my chances of getting into a top MBA course.

I am thinking about applying to the B schools as below (basically top European business schools) :
1. Oxford Said
2. Cambridge Judge
3. Insead
4. LBS
5. IMD
6. IE

I have a GMAT score of 700 but low GPA (Third class honours from a top UK university. This equates to around 2.4 GPA).

I have six years work experience from a leading consumer electronics manufacturer (revenue of around 7 billion USD).
I work as European strategy and planning manager where my major achievements are as follows :

Developed and implemented market strategies for the European region and key subsidiaries by identifying key segments and value propositions, and defining core performance factors. Managed project teams that implemented strategies to raise subsidiary channel management performance and embed sustainable key account development capabilities. Led key analyses to deliver top management business insights and recommendations on critical issues.

• Managed projects teams from sales, marketing and finance groups
• Developed regional channel management strategy and execution plans
• Conducted DCF and valuation analyses on core Pan-European retail accounts
• Designed key business processes to raise salesforce efficiency and decision-making capabilities 
• Supported Regional Business Unit in defining pricing guidelines by drafting price requirements and policy; presented in quarterly regional subsidiary president meeting. 
• Advised on process requirements for implementation of new regional supply-chain reporting tool.

I think LBS and INSEAD are going to be harder. Your GPA will be an issue at these top schools. Not insurmountable, but you need to do very well on your applications and really shine in the interviews should you get one. If you have time, take a few classes from some reputable online extension courses and build up an alternative transcript (get A's). Otherwise, just go in and apply and hope for the best. Your work experience sounds very good and the only red flag that draws my attention to is your GPA.

Assuming you are aiming for top schools then a score above 700 is desirable. A higher GMAT score is advisable if you are aiming for top institutes abroad. Also the GMAT alone won’t determine your chances of admission; your work experience plays a vital role as well. You need to ensure that academically you are in a good position. However it is not just the academics but beyond the academics that will help you in determining your candidature.

Do highlight your work experience to tell what you did there like-what were your achievements, what initiative you took, what changes you drove in your workplace etc. So if you can show that in terms of work that you have demonstrated the skills business schools are looking for you could still put in a strong set of essays.

Also make sure in your work what you did there like-what were your achievements, what initiative you took, what changes you drove in your workplace etc are exhibited well in your application.

Make sure you follow the ‘show rather than tell’ principle so that the admissions committee could really understand your strengths and differentiating factors.”
