Hello,
Thanks for reading this post. I am planning on going back to school Fall 2016 or 2017. Planning this far ahead because I have an interesting dilemma and I would like time to prep the best application possible.
-American Asian female
-Undergrad: NESCAC school
-Major: Business; minor: Econ
-E/Cs: VP of student club, played a sport
-Work Experience: will have 5 years by Fall 2016 (currently living/working in a Tier 1 US city)
-3 years as analyst in asset management for institutional investment firm
-1.5 years as real estate research analyst
-6 mo. international experience as assistant consultant on overseas real estate development projects
-Current E/Cs: founder of small nonprofit that raises funding for literacy education in developing countries, chair of mentoring program for young teen girls
-GMAT: haven't taken yet, but past few practice tests averaged 720
-GPA: 2.4Goal after MBA: I want to stay in the same industry. I need an MBA to accelerate my career progression to being a fund manager.
I think my profile is decent until you see my GPA. The reason is I experienced 2 deaths in my family over a 3-year time period, compounded by the fact my family lived across the country. I am in the process of completing a Certificate in Finance (all a's so far), hoping it will mitigate the effects of a low GPA.
My Questions:
1. Which programs should I target? I'm open to anywhere in the world
2. How should I approach the Optional Essay? Immaturity definitely played a role in how I couldn't handle academics/personal issues, but I also don't want to come off as giving excuses
3. What else can I do to improve my candidacy?
4. Of course I'd like to aim for the best program. In my situation with the low grades, would waiting to have more work experience and then applying to an EMBA be a better option?
Thank you in advance for your advice!
