Hello,
I request you to evaluate my profile. I am planning to apply for Fall2011 (September) intake
Nationality- Indian
Gender – Male
GMAT – 620 (Q-48, V-27)
GPA – There is no GPA system in my university. It is percentage based. However I have good academic records and completed by BE in Mechanical engineering with a distinction in the final year.
Work experience: 2 years work experience with SIEMENS Ltd. in the transformer manufacturing division. Primary responsibilities included coordinating manufacturing activities and training of technicians.
Some important responsibilities executed by me include:
Cycle time reduction in manufacturing done by taking various initiatives.
Was a part of the team that was responsible for getting Siemens Transformers, India certified for ISO14001 and OHSAS 18001.
One of the coordinators for maintaining 5-S (Quality based system) on the shop floor.
Executing my responsibilities and managing my department alone as a trainee for during the delegation of my superior to Germany for 3 months.
Training and mentoring new technicians and engineers of my department.
Initiating and coordinating various trainings for technicians.
Conducting various trainings for technicians and shop floor engineers.
Some extra initiatives taken by me include:
Won the Best Project Award on the topic “Optimization of Insulation costs in Transformers” organized as a part of Trainee Engineer Seminar-3 in 2009.
Submitted a techno commercial paper as a part of “Environmental Award 2009” organized by SIEMENS AG.
Initiating training records and efficient management of spares using MS-Access.
Developing a multifunction worker training timetable along the same lines as Toyota.
Maintaining manufacturing plans using MS-Project.
Conducted a basic level training on MS Excel for employees in manufacturing.
Other experiences/ activities:
• Completed a basic level course in German with an A+ grade.
• Successfully completed a project titled “Inservice Inspection of a pressure vessel” at Larsen&Toubro Limited, Powai as a part of my undergraduation final year project
• Stood second in a national level technical paper presentation for the project titled “Inservice inspection of a pressure vessel” held at IIT, Bombay.
• Claimed several accolades in various technical paper presentation events.
• Part of the football team that stood first in FACES, an intracollegiate football event.
• Successfully published around 36 articles on issues of public awareness in Hindustan Times, a leading newspaper daily. Also published 2 articles in JAM, a fortnightly newspaper for teenagers.
Community service:
• Active member of ~Pankhudi, an NGO that aims at working towards underprivileged children since the last 2 years.
Initiatives taken in ~Pankhudi:
• To teach and enhance the quality of lives of underprivileged kids.
• Mumbai coordinator for the flood relief drive conducted by ~Pankhudi for those affected by the Bihar floods in 2008.
• Making the media brief for ~Pankhudi.
• Compered for “Grand Carnival 2008”, an event held at Father Agnel college, Mumbai to raise funds for underprivileged kids.
My verbal score in the GMAT is less but my English is not at all bad considering I have published several articles in a leading news daily, won accolades in technical paper presentation competitions and compered in events. I want to know whether this would affect my chances of getting into a good b-school.
I am planning to start shortlisting universities in the US soon. I would like to know how competitive my application looks and my chances of getting into a good b-school. Thanks a lot for your patience and time.
