Sure thing, glad to help. In general your straight 'odds' are slightly higher in R1 just given the fact that there are more spaces available, though R2 is still a good option. But I think what you are mainly asking is, if you apply now and are not successful, and have to re-apply next year, is that a negative? In general, no, it is not a negative. In fact some schools appreciate knowing that you are THAT dedicated to their school, that you are willing to try again if it did not work the first time. But, they do want you to explain what is 'different' since last year... i.e. you'll have to show that you've changed and grown in some way, in order to demonstrate a stronger application the 2nd time around. That might be through accomplishments and progress and leadership opportunities at work; volunteering or community activities; etc. Overall if you have the time to really pull things together (and you're not rushing or skimping on essay quality) you may have a decent shot for this year though too.
