Hi roadrunner,

Taking FULL-LENGTH CATs (with the Essay and IR sections) under realistic conditions and at regular intervals is important for a number of reasons:

1) There are a number of aspects to training for the GMAT that can ONLY be learned by taking CATs at regular intervals. "Cramming" lots of CATs into the last 'block' of your studies is rarely beneficial.
2) Taking regularly scheduled CATs allows you to measure how well you're improving in the areas that you are studying. Without that 'measure', you won't know if your studies are actually leading to improvement or not.
