Hi there,
Thanks for your post. Here are some thoughts I have after reading your profile and questions:
-average Indian IT/engineering work experience profile, with strong extracurricular involvement
-seems like you are someone who likes event management/organization and goes above and beyond at work/outside of work to get others together and make things happen
-sounds like some strong community involvement
-your choice of moving into Marketing or Tourism could raise some questions.... be sure to show that you know what you are getting into and can explain why you have made that choice and how your past skills will carry over to this new career direction. Do as much research as you can, perhaps some informational interviews at companies you'd consider working for, so you can show you really know whatever career direction you choose is right for you (ideally)
-do you know where you want to work post-MBA? you've mentioned schools all around the world; if you have a preference of where to work after, you may want to study in that area
-you may want to reference the Financial Times MBA rankings for a global list, as well as US News & World report's ranking for a US-only list. Generally I believe top 10 or so would be challenging given how competitive the applications are to those schools. In terms of schools that are good for Marketing, there are subject-specific lists on US News and other sites; you may want to research Ross, Fuqua, McCombs, Anderson, Kenan-Flagler, Kelley.
- Next steps: RESEARCH SCHOOLS!! And research your career plans! You have to make a clear and compelling case within your application for exactly WHY you need this MBA and HOW you plan to use it... if you can't do that, the rest doesn't really matter.
As for researching schools, there are many factors to consider; for more on choosing schools, check out our free download at:
