Hi, I'm new here.
I'm trying to figure out how to start my preparation for the GMAT exam.
Couple days ago I received a few books about the GMAT.
I've got MGMAT guide set (10 books) 5th edition, the OG 13th edition (plus verbal and quantitative) and Kaplan GMAT Premier 2013. I don't know whether I’m gonna need them or not but still ordered them just in case.
I did a couple of tests to determine my level.
I tried 800score and got the score of 450. Also I did the GMATPrep test and scored 400.
Well, I have problems with both verbal and quantitative section but I decided to stick with the 3 months plan suggested by bb and to prepare for the math section on the first place.
I quickly looked over my books and found out that GMAT requires only the math that we did in the middle school (We have a different school system in Russia) so I hope it's not gonna be that hard and probably I just need to recall that stuff in my memory.
But I still have problems with choosing the book to start with. Right now, I decided not to read about the actual GMAT exam at all.
I have to recall my knowledge at first.
So, I'd be very thankful if you help me to choose the right book. Also, it would be wonderful if you could estimate my chances.
As I wrote above, I got the highest score of 450 and the second score of 400.
My target is 650+ (670-680 would be great)
I have about 3-4 months to prepare. Also I have a good schedule which allows me to prepare for 4-5 hours 3-4 days a week and for 2 hours during the other days.
Moreover, twice a week I have classes with a private English tutor, who could help me with the verbal section.
According to this information, do I have the real chances to score 650+ on the exam or it's almost impossible thing to do?

Your score can definitely be achieved, but you will have to study a lot. I would start with the Manhattan sentence correction book and also book 1 of the math series. The SC will help you on all other facets of the exam. Good luck.

Sounds like you have a ways to go and ample time to prepare so that's great. You definitely should use the OG book but I would recommend other resources to get down your basics first. There's plenty of areas on the exam to get familiar with first. Students often get confused as to what the question is asking for DS questions. For SC, you'll need to learn the basics for grammar - especially if you are a non-native speaker. Then for RC, you want to use quick strategies to get through the whole passage and not lose time here. Speed and efficiency is important on the day of the exam. Prepare for exam day jitters by doing practice question "sprints" - then by the time you take your exam, you'll feel you can actually get through the whole exam without being exhausted.
