I echo the comments in the previous post. In fact, you run more risk in converting your GPA because if you do so inaccurately, you are likely to (a) deflate your actual GPA making your academic performance look worse or (b) inflate your GPA and potentially look sloppy or dishonest.

If you are terribly concerned and want peace of mind, you can always call up the Admissions Office and ensure that Harvard is completely comfortable with how you are submitting your application and if there is anything you can do to facilitate that conversion process.

If you are actively preparing your HBS application, please reach out to Admissionado for help with any or all of the application components!

Best,

Thank you! I hope my GMAT score will outweigh the low GPA. I still have a semester of school left so hopefully I can push that 3.7 for my own peace of mind. :)

Hi GMATClub,

I'm curious as to how Harvard will assess my GPA. In Canada, every university has its own GPA scale. My school has absolutely no range between 3.4 and 3.7, hence I am stuck at 3.4 even though my cumulative average is only 2.6% away from the 3.7 bracket.

When I submit my transcript, will my GPA be taken at face value, or does Harvard has its own system in assessing the applicant's GPA?

Thanks!
I will suggest to not to convert your official score in US score/grade.
All schools tend to evaluate the GPA/Grade in regards to the grading system as its is stated in the Transcript.
It will be best for you to submit your profile as it is, without conversion.

Thanks for the insight. I am definitely a Type A personality and hate not knowing everything - I will just have to live with this uncertainty and hope that the rest of my profile outshines the GPA!

Here are Harvard's application instructions regarding GPA:
"If you don't have one, enter "0" for both your GPA and the scale. Class rank is optional; if you don't know yours or your school doesn't rank students, leave it blank. Many colleges and universities in the U.S. use a 4.0 grading scale. Don't worry if your school does not -- and DON'T convert yours to a 4.0 scale."
