Some people believe that the Earth is being harmed (damaged) by human activity. Others feel that human activity makes the Earth a better place to live. What is your opinion? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
Any kind of human activity has either a positive or negative impact on the Earth that we inhabit. In this age, humans are making progress all areas of work and there are huge number of activities they are involved in. While some people may think that their activities usually have positive impact on the Earth, others may disagree. In my view, Earth is being harmed by human activity for two reasons.
The main reason is that humans are responsible for causing ecological imbalance. We tend to tamper the nature and don't pay attention to our activities that can harm the planet. For example, today morning, I was travelling to my work. There was huge traffic and I was really frustrated as it was very hot. Suddenly, I realized that the number of vehicles in my city has been increasing so much which is leading to such traffics. There were so any vehicles on the road and there were so many horn sounds. I realized how much we are damaging our environment by such noise pollution. Also, so many vehicles means increase in air pollution which damages the atmosphere. I reallized that so may of my acquantances were becoming ill and this can be the likely cause. When I reached office, I observed that the air conditioner remains on all the time and this is the case with all the offices. This way we are contributing to greenhouse gases and depleting the ozone layer. As you can see, there are so many ways in which we are tampering the Earth that we live in.
Another reason is that the technological advancements that we are making not only have positive impact but also negative ones. Such advancements negatively effect the Earth. For instance, I remember the case of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Although the nuclear reactions were studied to produce desirable effects, they can be used by some evil people for wrong purposes. Such misuse of the atom bomb impacted both humans and Earth's atmosphere equally. In another case, some days ago, there was a news that the marine ships that were carrying huge gallons of oil had some malfunction in one of the areas and the entire ship sank in the sea. The oil leaked into the sea and it had a huge negative effect on the marine lives. Although we are technology advance as we have developed ships for out convenience of transporting goods and services, such technical glitches and mishappenings can lead to disasterous results. These incidences taught me that, no matter how big or small technical devices we are using, we must learn to handle them properly so that they don't affect the very place that we inhabit.
In sum, although some people would just boast about the how human activity has had great positive impact on the Earth and ensured our survival, I believe that there are ever more increasing number of instances when we are harming the Earth. Not only we are tampering with nature by causing ecological imbalance, but also using the technology in a way that damages the environment. All of us should ensure that whatever activity we indulge in, we should try to understand the negative effect it can cause and then only, proceed to take such actions. We should consider this as our duty to protect the Earth.
