Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? It is better to use printed material such as books and articles to do research than it is to use the internet. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
Any kind of research work requires one to do detailed study on the area of research from various books and articles. This is necessary as it helps one to understand the concepts well and makes one aware of the shortcomings of previous findings and thus, makes one aware of the areas where improvements can be made. If a research activity has to be carried out, some people would prefer to use printed materials like books and articles, while others would prefer internet. In my view, I would prefer internet for research purpose for two reasons.
The main reason is that internet acts as a collection of resources from many sources. I can find out great content on the research topic from multiple sources which may not be even known to me. For example, I remember, when I was in my undergraduation, I was working on a research project on 'Internet of Things using Wireless Sensor Networks' under one of my professors. Since this was a vast topic, I was finding it difficult to find good research material in the college library. Although I went to the central library in my area, I found it really difficult to search for books or research papers on similar topics. I reported this to my professor and he suggested me to use internet for this purpose. Considering his advice, I checked internet and there, I found so many research papers which I could easily download and study from. There were so many articles posted by people on the topic and many books were also available to be accessed. This made my work easier as I could filter out the relevant material and com with my draft in the given deadline. As you can see, internet can be a great tool for people doing any kind of research.
Another reason is that internet helps in reducing time and expenditure for carrying out any research activity. It helps in getting the required study material quickly and almost free. For instance, when I was working on the same project, I did not have enough time and money. I had my academic assessments on a regular basis and time was always a paucity. And since I was a student, I was not earning anything on my own. Internet helped me a lot in accessing e-books which were available free of cost. I could also find many short notes of such books provided by people in their blogs. As almost everything is open-source, it made it easier for me to use so many materials without much difficulty. Had there been no internet, I would have visited many libraries in search of books which would have consumed a lot of my time and would have costed me a lot. This might have made the whole process of research tiresome and I might have ended performing poorly in my academic assessments. Also, It would have been nearly impossible for me to access published research papers free of cost. This experience taught me to use internet effectively for many research purposes which helped me in pursuing many other research works later.
In sum, while some may prefer printed material, I believe that internet acts a great aid in doing any kind of research. Not only does it help in obtaining a diverse range of material from different sources but also helps access them quickly and free of cost. We should promote the use of internet for research activities in universities and schools so that students can avoid various hassles. This would make the research work easier to indulge in.
