Hi guys:
Demographic: Male, Peruvian, 29 years old (30 this year)
High School: 1st place. Won many maths competitions.
Undergraduate Education: System Engineer at Best Enginnering School in Peru. GPA 2.5 (many courses were hard). Top 15th place in entrance exam.
Weak point: Left university 2 years (I was not sure about my career), but when returned school I did it well, and pass very hard professors where very few students did it.
Work Experience: Hybrid profile (project management, product development, retail banking)
- 3 years in peruvian subsidiary of one of the biggest banks in US/World. In Retail Banking, doing process improvement, functional analysis, and testing of new functionalities.
Promoted once, and qualified as outstanding.
- 2 years in top 4 peruvian bank, and subsidiary of one of the biggest bank in Canada. In retail banking too, doing project management and implementig new functionalities in the payments business. I won an schoolarship in a postgraduate course (Diploma in Project Management). Promoted once, and qualified as Very Good.
Postgraduate Education: Diploma in Project Management in Top Institute in Project Management in Peru. GPA 4 (that was easy).
Extracurricular activities:
- amateur swimmer (3 times every week)
- few social work some hours a year (3 or 4 days every year)
Why and MBA?: I am doing very well at work, having 5 years of experiencie I think is time to take the next step and boost my career. I want a very good education and gain the netwoork that only a Top MBA could give, also want to have better job opportunities.
Post MBA?: Continue doing Project Management, in Retail Baking or Payments Business, or maybe chage to a technology company. (Love projects, Love innovation, and love the impact in people)
Planning on score ~720 GMAT
Target Schools: LBS (I love UK), Booth, IE, Wharton, Ross
What do you think about my profile? any recommendations? I think my undergraduate GPA is my weakness point. But after that, I did it very well at university and at work. And I feel confident doing very well at a top business school.
Thanks a lot.
Hey there good sir!
So I think the most interesting things about your profile is that you are Peruvian and in banking, and if you do indeed hit that GMAT score you are aiming at, you should have a lot of good options.
I do however, think that even with a 720 Top 10 schools will be out of range. The average GPA at top 10 schools is about 3.6-3.7. And you also missed two years. Additionally, your work experience is good, but retail banking is seen as less "strong" than IB/VE/PC, which Top 10 schools would prefer. I would guess then that given a 720, your range would be more likely Top 20. But since that is also pretty awesome, there's little to worry about
