Hello there!
I’m 27 (F), based in India. I’m looking to start my applications for R2 this year, and I would appreciate your help in reviewing my profile.
Target schools - Sloan, Booth, Kellogg, Columbia, Wharton, Haas
Dream schools - Sloan, Harvard, Stanford
Work profile
6 yrs work experience in Managerial positions.
**Started off as a Territory Service Manager
Managed about 12 outlets of India’s largest automobile company, in a state where I barely understood the language. But did extremely well and have some accolades to show.
**Got selected as an Entrepreneur in Residence at the same company.
Worked in this role in a completely start-up environment, building something from scratch with a team of 4 people. Worked with government bodies, other companies and led a lot of these efforts.
**Worked at a consulting firm (world’s largest and the most trusted firm in the healthcare industry) - Not MBBs or Big 4s
Led a team of 6 to manage business operations for a Fortune 100 client. Got promoted to the consultant position in < 1 year
**Currently, Product Manager at an AI startup
I joined this startup when AI wasn’t so hot. I loved the product and joined as an Associate Product Manager. Got promoted to Product Manager position eventually. Working here as the only Product Manager, leading a team of 14 Engineers, 4 designers, all at least 10-20 years older to me.
Extra curriculars
** Built a business for my mom so she could realise her dream of being financially independent - Up and running
**Did some seminars for underprivileged kids and taught them the value of reading extensively, and importantly how to get started
**Learnt to play the Ukulele and have performed at a few open mics
Academics
Mechanical Engineering graduate from T2 University in India. GPA equivalent: 4.0
GMAT
Attempt 2 - 710 (Q47, V40, IR 8) Attempt 1 - 670 (Q49, V31, IR 2)
I did take a third attempt, but didn't do well there either, and hence cancelled the scores. I don't have the time to take the GMAT again given I want to apply this year in R2

Your work experience is impressive, with a healthy mix of managerial roles and a clear demonstration of leadership, particularly in your transition to a Product Manager at an AI startup. This experience will be valuable in crafting your post-MBA goals.
However, I do share your concern regarding the competitiveness of your GMAT score, especially given the highly selective nature of your target and dream schools. A 710 on the GMAT is a solid score, but it may not stand out at schools like Sloan, Harvard, and Stanford, where the average scores tend to be higher.
I would recommend considering a broader range of programs, including some in the top 15-25 range, where your profile would be more competitive. This doesn't mean you shouldn't apply to your dream schools, but it's important to have a balanced school list.

The application process is truly holistic, and committees will look at your stats (GPA and GMAT), work experience, and extracurriculars.
Your GPA of 4.0 is certainly strong, so that is a great start. Your GMAT is also strong, though compared to others in your demographic, it is a bit below the average. I am glad you have taken it a few times though. If you end up reapplying next year, you could take it again, or switch to another exam. You could even take a supplemental course such as stats or calculus. For now though, you may still want to illustrate to the schools that you have the academic ability to succeed in the classroom. You could showcase your quant ability in your resume, and your recommenders could do the same in their recommendations.
It is hard to gauge your work experience without knowing your accomplishments and impact you have made there. It is nice to see that you have leadership experience in your current and past role. It will be very important to show you have made an impact and demonstrated leadership there. Ideally this will be supported by strong recommendation letters as well. It will also be important to explain why you want your MBA, and to also illustrate the skills you already have which are transferable. Be sure your story makes sense, and is realistic and specific.
Regarding extracurriculars, make sure to really emphasize your leadership roles you have taken on. Building a business for your mother certainly sounds impressive; that is one aspect of your profile on which you can elaborate.
If you continue to strengthen your profile, you do have a chance at some of these schools, but they are extremely competitive, and each school simply does not have the room to admit all the world's qualified applicants. For that reason, I suggest apply to several schools, including reach, target and safety. I would focus on some schools that are closer to top 20, as opposed to top 10. Hopefully they will see that you have a compelling story and are someone who will add value to the classroom and community.
