Plz help...I am unable to figure out my devastating GMAT score of 560.

Question

Hello respected members,

Today I appeared for GMAT at Pearson VUE Gurugram, Haryana, India. I got an unbelievably bad score of 560. I had given almost 12 mock tests including Kaplan, official 2 tests and one each of Veritas and Manhattan. In official mocks I scored 620 and 660. In Kaplan 6 mocks my score ranged from 600 to 680. In Manhattan I scored 600 and 660 in Veritas mock. I prepared for more than 6 months. Today in actual GMAT I was sure of accuracy of number of questions of about 20-22 in Verbal and 23-25 in QA. But when I got the result I was shocked to get a score of 560. VA 23 and QA 44. 
 Is there a way to know question wise score analysis report so that I may know which question was attempted wrong or which was attempted right. Please help because I am disheartened at this score. I was never expecting anything below 620-630 as per my level of preparation.

By the sound of it, you may still have some gaps in your fundamental understanding of the concepts tested in both verbal and quant. What have you done so far to prepare for the exam?

Unfortunately, the type of report you are looking for does not actually exist. Regarding your plan forward, I assume you are going to retake the GMAT? If so, do you want some advice regarding your study plan? Lastly, here is a helpful article:

The closest you have, is the ESR, but it doesn't give  question by question  analysis; rather it provides  quarter by quarter  diagnosis.

Hi Ajay,

I'm sorry to hear that Test Day didn't go as well as planned. When these types of score drops occur, the two likely "causes" involve either something that was unrealistic during practice or something that was surprising (or not accounted for) on Test Day. Before we discuss any of those potential issues though, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) What type of study routine did you follow? How many hours did you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

You might also choose to purchase the Enhanced Score Report. While the ESR doesn’t provide a lot of information (and won't give you the question-by-question information that you are looking for), there are usually a few data points that we can use to define what went wrong on Test Day (and what you should work on to score higher). If you purchase the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.

I have used OG 2020, Kaplan Prep 2020 guide and practiced a lot on gmat club questions.

Hello Rich,

Thanks for the reply. I have used OG 2020 guide, Kaplan test prep 2020 guide and practiced on gmat club with a good number of questions. 
I devoted almost 30-35 hours a week to preparation. On mocks my VA score has been hovering around 30-33 and QA score has been in range of 
47-49. I am targeting for a score of 700+. With a score of 560 I don't think that I may get accepted to any highly ranked college. So I am thinking of taking one more try with better level of preparatio

I think you may need to take a look at some different material. Perhaps try the Manhattan books, the Powerscore CR bible or some of  these  or  these . The GMAT is not an exam that you can brute-force by doing lots of practice questions. Practice questions have their role in preparing, but if you're lacking in fundamental understanding of the concepts, or if you're not using proper strategies, then doing practice questions won't help.

Hi Ajay,

Statistically-speaking, raising a 560 to the point that you can consistently score 700+ will likely require that you commit to at least another 3 months of consistent, guided study - and you'll have to make significant improvements to how you handle BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections. Thankfully, the GMAT is a consistent, predictable Exam, so you CAN train to score at a higher level. To make sure that we are properly planning out how you should approach this next phase of your studies, we have to be as specific as we can be with the details about how you studied up to this point - so I'm going to need specific answers to the questions I asked in my prior post:

1) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
2) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

I also want to reiterate that the data in the ESR can provide some valuable insights into how you 'responded' to the Official GMAT - and it might point out notably differences in terms of how you dealt with Test Day vs. how you worked through your CATs/mocks.
