Re: POLL: How much are you walking away from? [#permalink]
The main poll is OK for USD/Euro/Pound

I suggest including an additional option for international salaries converted into USD just so it doesn't skew the poll result.

Something like - international salary(converted) - below 50K USD or below 100k USD.

Cheers,

Don't forget that you're walking away from paying a lot of taxes too.

Thanks to everyone who responded. We ended up with a really nice sample size. I can't say that I'm surprised -- these figures seem to closely mirror the pre-MBA median comp figures that Forbes or BusinessWeek publsh.

Anyone in investment banking, private equity, or hedge funds should be there. Most in traditional investment management should be close too.

Those at the < 30K going into consulting or banking are going to feel REALLY rich for a few months. Talk about ROI.

Older applicants with an expatriation contract in a manufacturing company can do that too. 8-)

Remember your stats course guys: self-selection bias.

My guess is that the real distribution is a little more normalized than what we're seeing above. I personally know far more future-MBAers making between $45-65k than $100+

My salary is publically available since I'm a civil servant :)

In any case, it definitely upset me when I figured out that I won't be making any more money in salary the first couple of years after b-school than I am right now but while applying I reminded myself that the salary progression I would see after moving into finance would be significantly better than my salary as a federal attorney. My upward mobility has pretty much flattened out here since I reached the highest non-supervisory grade at my agency. Plus, there's the additional benefit of actually being passionate about my job, upward career mobility and job flexibility
