From above we can conclude that nominations and album sale resulted in deciding that he is todays best pop artist.
C. Grammy nominations and record sales are accurate measures of an artist’s greatness.

SO OA:C.....closest to the conclusion

Pop singer Clive Jones has been nominated for six Grammy Awards and his new album is enjoying its eighth consecutive week at number one on the charts. It is safe to say that Jones is todays best pop artist.

Let's jot down the points:
Premise: CJ nominated for 6Gs and album on top
Premise: ? (assumption)
Conclusion: Safe to say CJ is today's best pop artist

Which of the following assumptions is most pivotal to this argument?

Our assumption could be something like these awards and songs/albums on top chart is the best measure to say about a person's popularity or success. POE is another best method to find the answer.

A. Jones’s previous albums were also chart-toppers.
INCORRECT. Nothing about previous albums is mentioned not do they have any relevance.

B. Jones’s next album will outsell his current release.
INCORRECT. Not required information. Out of scope.

C. Grammy nominations and record sales are accurate measures of an artist’s greatness.
CORRECT. Same as our probable answer.

D. Jones will win several of the Grammy Awards for which he has been nominated.
INCORRECT. Why to bring future in between? He may or may not win...how is this sentence creating a link between the premise and conclusion?

E. Jones is popular with both fans and music critics.
INCORRECT. A strong contender to me. Negation kinda works here. If Jones is not popular with both fans and music critics, it won't weaken the conclusion as much as option C because the core idea of the passage is not popularity but on what context is CJ declared as biggest star just because he's been nominated for various awards and album is on top.

Though I got stuck between C and E, I am pretty sure that answer is option C.

conclusion of the argument--It is safe to say that Jones is today's best pop artist.

the conclusion is based on two points --
1-Pop singer Clive Jones has been nominated for six Grammy Awards.
2-his new album is enjoying its eighth consecutive week at number one on the charts

by saying this author assumes that ---nomination for grammy and number one on charts--are the true indicator for best pop artist
--if we negate the assumption our conclusion falls apart

A. Jones’s previous albums were also chart-toppers.
---we are not concerned about jones's previous albums
--we are told that johns current album is chart-topper on the basis of this author conclude that jones is the best artist
--we need to find the answer choice that bridges the gap between these two and reinforces our conclusion (incorrect)

B. Jones’s next album will outsell his current release.
--negating this does not hinder our conclusion--so this cant be our assumption
--also this answer choice is irrelevant we are not concerned about his next album (incorrect)

C. Grammy nominations and record sales are accurate measures of an artist’s greatness.
---yes this matches with our prethinking--negating this
--Grammy nominations and record sales are not accurate measures of an artist’s greatness
then we cant say safely that jones is the best artist and our conclusion falls apart--this is the assumption (correct)

D. Jones will win several of the Grammy Awards for which he has been nominated.
--whether jones will win Grammy awards does not reinforce our conclusion
--we cant say on the basis of this that jones is the best artist (irrelevant)

E. Jones is popular with both fans and music critics.
---maybe jones is popular with both fans and music artist but this is not the surety that he is the best artist
---maybe he is popular for other reasons --so we cant say safely that he is the best pop artist
--this cant be the assumption (incorrect)

Pop singer Clive Jones has been nominated for six Grammy Awards and his new album is enjoying its eighth consecutive week at number one on the charts. It is safe to say that Jones is todays best pop artist.
Which of the following assumptions is most pivotal to this argument?

As per the argument Pop singer Clive Jones is best in the business as he has been nominated for six Grammy Awards and his current album is into its eighth consecutive week at top of the charts.

A. Jones’s previous albums were also chart-toppers. – WRONG. It may or may not have been true.
B. Jones’s next album will outsell his current release. – WRONG. Again only prediction can be made so it’s incorrect.
C. Grammy nominations and record sales are accurate measures of an artist’s greatness. – CORRECT. As argument says Joes is today’s best after mentioning about his nominations and new album’s success, it is true to say that record sales might have lead his new albums topping the charts.
D. Jones will win several of the Grammy Awards for which he has been nominated. – WRONG. Similar to options A and B the option has a possibility of both being true or not. It not sure if he is going to win definitely.
E. Jones is popular with both fans and music critics. – WRONG. Well half of the claim made in the option is true as Jones’s new album’s popularity suggest. But, he being popular among critics is still open as both possibilities exist.

Answer (C).

A. Jones’s previous albums were also chart-toppers. (Irrelevant as we are talking about his today's success not past)
B. Jones’s next album will outsell his current release. (Irrelevant as we are talking about his today's success not future)
C. Grammy nominations and record sales are accurate measures of an artist’s greatness. (Correct Answer as these parameters decide if he is today's best)
D. Jones will win several of the Grammy Awards for which he has been nominated. (Irrelevant as this does not tell that he is today's best pop artist)
E. Jones is popular with both fans and music critics. (Irrelevant as his popularity may be important but it doesn't help in making a logical connection)

C. Grammy nominations and record sales are accurate measures of an artist’s greatness.
D. Jones will win several of the Grammy Awards for which he has been nominated.
E. Jones is popular with both fans and music critics.

Official Explanation

Correct Answer: C

The unstated assumption that connects the premise to the conclusion in this argument is that Grammy nominations and record sales are accurate measures of an artists greatness. Obviously, this is a highly debatable assumption, but it does provide the necessary link between the premise and the conclusion. The success of Joness previous albums (choice a) and his next album (choice b) are irrelevant to the conclusion, which is focused on his success today. Jones may or may not win those Grammy awards (choice d), but that is essentially irrelevant as well; it does not logically connect the premise to the conclusion. Joness popularity with both fans and critics (choice e) is important, but it likewise does not provide a logical connection.

It should be (choice b) instead of (choice c) in the sentence and his next album (choice c) are irrelevant to the conclusion,
