Omg. Sorry. Yes that was a typo. It's 45 mins and not 4 mins

Posted from my mobile device

I would'nt call 45 mins a short interview. Infact its relatively longish. I myself had a short and sweet 30 minute interview with the adcom :)

Any more interview experiences?

I have mine in less than 3 hours (10pm IST). Will post my experience tomorrow (my time, I'm in India).

Hey everyone,

So i have an interview tomorrow via Microsoft Lync and i wanted to ask a technical question. Do i join a meeting few minutes before and the interviewer approves me? or do i need to wait till the interviewer does something?

I'm asking this, because with other school i had a Skype interview and it was specifically mentioned that i need to wait till interviewer calls me...

Thanks in advance.

Anyone?

I called in on time and she was already there waiting for me. You need to "join meeting" on Lync on time.

Hey All - I am a current 2nd Year student at GBS concentrating in Marketing Strategy. I am happy to answer and student life/academic questions you might have about our program.

Let the questions fly!

Goizueta Business School - Emory University

Hi Jon, thanks for doing this. For me, the intimate learning environment at Goizueta is an attractive factor. That said, what in your opinion are the possible downsides of a small class? Does a small class size translate to a small network?

Prudence,

This is a great question. I believe this boils down to a question of quality vs. quantity - the GBS alumni network, though formidable, will never be as large as that of larger schools. However, because of the small community at GBS there exists a tremendous bond between alumni and current students. I actually just grabbed coffee with a recent alum, who made time for me at 7:45AM before heading into work for the day, where we discussed the benefits of the GBS network and how those three letters will always get you a conversation with someone anywhere in the world. I have never run into a situation where a GBS alum was not willing to meet with me, whether in Atlanta, New York or Minneapolis - the bond is a very strong one and a big benefit of the small community here.

My interview went quite well. Very friendly interviewer and fortunately the web conferencing software worked without a glitch.

Simple straightforward questions.

It was a 30-35 min interview. Another lady who does interviews for the evening program was observing how to do interviews via video.

Why engineering?
What was your favourite subject in engineering? (I answered with Math & Probability and she was very surprised)
When did you decide to go into marketing?
How did you get your job at Operation Smile? (It was my first job out of college, a non-profit)
Tell me a little about the wine industry in India (I now work for a wine company)
Why did you switch? Why do you think you were chosen for both of your positions? (I mentioned my unique skill set of analytical thinking, graphic design, also threw in a little about how I used my design skills to start my e-commerce venture https://www.laptopskinvault.com)
What do you do in the little spare time you have left over in the day?
Why the Two year program at Goizueta & not the one year?
What attracted you to the Goizueta program?
How will you be able to adjust back to school life after a 3 year gap?
What are your Short Term goals? Do you plan to work in India or US on graduation?
Name some companies you would look for a job at on graduation? (Threw me off a bit since I haven't thought of any specific company for this but I managed since I did know Mindshare which specialises in Branding)
Would you be ok with Brand Management at a consumer goods company? (I said yes because I plan to consult on Branding in retail in the future)
Do you have any questions about Goizueta for me?

And that was about it.

Hope this helps the others who've still to interview.

Cheers & Best of Luck.

Hi,
Since i am from utilities background,i would like to know if Emory has any energy clubs that are directed towards dealing with challenges that we are facing when it comes to saving energy.
Also,i would like to know about 'Goizueta Marketing Strategy Consultancy'.When do full time MBA students join it?

Sheeraj,

Thanks for your question. The GBS Energy Markets Club (EMC) is a very active club on campus and actually just announced the 2nd Annual EMC Goizueta Energy Symposium (please see attached). This year's Symposium will focus on myriad issues with the Oil, Gas and Electricity industries with thought/industry leaders serving on panels, speaking and interacting with students. Please feel free to message me if would like to be connected directly with the President of the EMC.

As for GMSC, the program is filled with mostly 1st year students from the 2Yr Program and a few individuals from the 1Yr Program. Please click this link for more information - https://goizueta.emory.edu/gmsc/. As I mentioned in a previous post, GMSC is one of the main reasons I matriculated to GBS and strongly believe in the program, so much that I am a Team Guide (similar to a TA) for one of this year's team (our client needs recommendations on how to bring a fast food concept to China - very interesting project).

Hope this helps,
Jon

I had my interview last week but I didn't have any problems uploading the Resume. What is the issue that you are facing?

Thanks Jon, that's really good to know! I attended the Super Saturday via webcast and I remember Brian Mitchell talking about how responsive the CMC is. Are you a career switcher and if so, could you comment on your experience with them?

Thanks!

I was able to upload it: I had to use Firefox instead of Internet Explorer and I had to delete my browser’s temporary files/cache for it to work. Thank you though.

Pru,

Great to hear that you have been to campus - that was actually another draw for me. Might sound small, but the amount of natural light at GBS does not compare to any other school I visited - you underestimate just how much sunlight can help until you get cooped up in a windowless room for hours and hours.

I am not a career switcher as I came from Advertising and am now in Marketing Strategy; I am simply "on the other side" working on the "client side". However, many folks are career switchers here and there are numerous resources available in the CMC to prepare you for a new career. However, I would argue that the strongest resource is you classmates, especially the 2nd Year students who are career switchers themselves. I cannot tell you how much time I, and all my 2nd Year classmates, have spent working with the 1st Year students as they search, apply, interview and prepare for internships - not only do we consider it somewhat of a duty (ie "paying it forward"), but we are certainly incented to help by the prospect of continuing to have one the highest job placement ratings (98% full time employment 3 months after graduation for the class of 2012) in the country.

Hope this helps,
Jon
