The figure above shows two rectangles, a and b. What is the perimeter of the whole region?
(1) The perimeter of b is 40.
(2) AB = 4.

Easy to wrong but add all sides in the perimeter..
GF + DE = AC
And AG+EF=CD
Perimeter= BC+AB+AG+GF+FE+ED+CD=BC+(AG+FE)+DE+DC+AB+GF=(BC+AE+ED+DC)+2*AB=40+2*4=48

Solution
To find:
- • The perimeter of the given whole region
Approach and Working:
The perimeter of the whole region can be written as follows:
- • AG + GF + FE + ED + DC + CB + BA
= (AG + FE) + (GF + ED) + DC + (CB + BA)
= CD + AC + DC + CA
= 2 (CD + AC)
Analysing Statement 1
- • As per the information given in statement 1, the perimeter of b is 40
- o Therefore, we can write as 2 (CD + BC) = 40
o Or, CD + BC = 20
Hence, statement 1 is not sufficient to answer
Analysing Statement 2
- • As per the information given in statement 2, AB = 4
• But we need to know the value of BC and CD
Hence, statement 2 is not sufficient to answer
Combining Both Statements
If we combine both the statements, we can write
- • CD + BC = 20
• AB = 4
Adding them, we can get CD + BC + AB = CD + AC = 20 + 4 = 24
Hence, the correct answer is option C.
Answer: C
