Hi kitkat44,

First off, your 710 is an outstanding score, so you can comfortably apply to all of the Schools that you are interested in. The Q43 won't "impress" anyone - and at certain Programs (for example, Finance Programs), it could be considered a 'red flag' - but a retest is probably NOT necessary. You're ultimately asking Admissions questions though, so you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile. There's a Forum full of those Experts here:

For your desired schools, I think your GMAT score will be fine. That said, why don’t you reach out to the folks in admissions to see whether you can get some further clarity? If you do speak to them, let us know what they say.

Q43 is not low. Q43 is only low if you are from an Asian Country. See the different percentiles for Q43 in different countries in GMAT 2007-2009.

United States 84%
Canada 73%
Germany 73%
France 65%
India 48%
Japan 43%
Taiwan 38%
South Korea 29%
China 18%

Asians now constitute about half of GMAT test takers worldwide. Therefore the Q43 percentile has gone down worldwide.

I learnt that GMAC (GMAT makers) make separate rankings based on country available for schools (not public). For example Q43 may be above 80% percentiles for American citizens. Another instance is when Q33 is about median or about 50% percentile for United States Citize, but that same Q33 is about 4% percentile for Chinese citizens.

GMAT profile of Harvard MBA is below:

GMAT

Verbal Range 28–51 (51%-99%)
Quantitative Range 35–51 (26%-96%)
Total Range 610–800 (59%-99%)
Median Verbal 42 (96%)
Median Quantitative 49 (74%)
Median Total 730 (95%)

As you can see from the above, for Harvard Business School, it is better to do better on Verbal (percentile wise), than on Quantitative. Other MBA schools have similar data in the sense that Verbal is weighed more than the Quantitative. The reason that make the Q43 seems low is the rising number of Asians taking the GMAT. Q43 would have been in the 90s percentiles in the 1980s when there were relatively fewer Asians taking the GMAT. If you are not an Asian, you should be happy with your Q43.
