The chart above provides a breakdown of car transactions for a local dealership. Were more cars leased in 1999 than were purchased in 1999?
(1) A total of 230 cars were purchased, and there were 10 fewer lease transactions in 2002 than in 1999.
(2) 40 cars were purchased in 2002.

From st1 b+65+75+z+d=230. And a=v+10.
Hence b+z+d=90. No clear info about a. Hence insufficient
From st2 z=40. Hence v=60. No info about a. Hence insufficient.
Combining a=70. And b=40. Hence sufficient to answer

Out of 475, total number of leases = p, total number of purchases = d. So p+d = 475.
Also, number of leases in 1999 and 2002 are a and v respectively. Number of purchases in the two years are b and z respectively.
(1) Total purchases = d=230. This means total lease transactions = p=475-230 = 245.
Also given that there were 10 fewer lease transactions in 2002 than in 1999. So v=a-10.
Now, a+75+50+v = 245. or a+125+a-10 = 245. This will give us the value of a, and in turn will also give us the value of b (since a+b = 110). And thats what we have to compare: a with b. Sufficient
(2) Given z=40. This is NOT sufficient on its own.
Hence A answer
