OR
Area = 2*(1/2*Diagonal*(perpendicular on this diagonal from the opposite vertex))=2*8*4*(1/2)=33

Hi ShahadatHJ, the formula above is for two triangles. It's the easiest way to solve, because the problem gives you the base and height for 2 congruent triangles. We can think of the diagonal as the base, and the "perpendicular drawn on that diagonal" as the height.

When a diagonal is drawn in a rectangle it forms a 45-45-90 triangle in the ratio x:x:root2X. We are given the length of the diagonal as 8, this is the length of the side opposite to 90 degreee, equate it to root2X. We find x =4root2.
Therefore are of rectangle =(4root2)^2 =32
