Hi,
I read some of the blogs about how often people take practice exams during preparation and usually they say once a week.
However I will more probably choose the strategy of attacking each section of GMAT separately while preparing, so if I take test after first week of preparing I will only be good at one section and not knowing anything about other sections. So I don't see the point of taking practice exams each week?
I know that many people use the same strategy, however they still do practice tests each week.
Can someone explain me this?
There is no one way to prep. Some people like to take exams every week to track progress, while others will only start exams after they have covered all of the topics in some detail.
I personally think it's good to track your progress over time (and see what areas need more work). I would recommend taking a free CAT online before you prep just to see where you started. From there, I would try to tackle each type of question (PS, DS, SC, CR, RC) and then start taking more CATs after you understand the basics on each question type. Then its just a matter of improving certain areas and focusing on your weaknesses.
Make sure to take all of your exams in a realistic setting (that means full exam with AWA and IR in a quiet place). This will help your practice exams be the best measure of how you will perform on test day.
