Hi. Very good idea and thinking on your part. 👍

BUT… I think you were sold the idea that does not exist.

I was too busy to call this out during the recent video. I think what you’re suggesting and what some experts believe is the perhaps eventual goal of data sufficiency as a part of the data insights section. However, that is not the present.

If you open the official guide 2024 which by the way does not contain any new questions at all since the last edition which predates Focus edition by a year, you will find plenty of good old math related data sufficiency questions.

As a matter of fact, all of the data sufficiency questions currently available are math related. Unfortunately GMAC has not released a single non-meth related data sufficiency question and we will have to wait until the new official guide comes out in the spring or summer to see them. Similarly, GMAT prep does not appear to contain any non-math related data sufficiency questions either, at least the free version that I’ve gone through over and over and over.

However, if you think there are some of these new data sufficiency question typesout there or here, I will be happy to classify them as such and tag appropriately 👍

Thanks for the prompt reply, bb!

Actually, when I meant 'pure-math' based questions, I was referring to questions that have direct equations and constraints in the question stem and options as compared to word problems. (Reference to my post here: https://gmatclub.com/forum/ds-in-gmat-focus-422407.html)

Also, when I apply the filter the GMAT prep (focus) on the DS sub-forum, I only see the word problems.

So, are the 'pure-math' DS questions still seen on the OG 2024/ GMAT prep?

Thank you for clarifying.

I can say that there are plenty of math heavy DS in the OG and even some geometry looking questions in the gmat focus prep (in the quant section) so perhaps the lines are not exactly very clear but using the focus gmat prep as source is a good idea.

Second option would be to filter type and focus on exactly what you said WP style DS and fewer of algebra and arithmetic. That seems to be what people report from the tests but not yet ubiquitous in practice tests or OG.

I have not devoted much of time to the DS and most to the other question types as well as scoring patterns. Those are bigger fish for me at the moment. But I will get to these and see if I can spot some other patterns.

If you think there is a good way to start proactively creating GMAT Ficus friendly lists of questions, I think that’s def a plus for the community and I will be happy put my time into it as well.

Thanks a lot, bb! I think, for the time being, the wise course of action for me would be not to omit any type of DS questions during practice.

MGMAT is doing a DI question analysis and timing recommendation. He is confirming that DS is shifting and becoming more logic based. Though he said he has not seen many yet DS being logic-based. It is only sometimes.
