Don't set yourself up for failure (" i will be disappointed if score below 720, even more so if I score below 700"). Nerves play a great deal on exam day and the GMAC concedes there is a range you will score in (I believe it's +/- 30 points) with no additional prep.

A 690 is more than sufficient for a top 10 program assuming you can sell yourself in the essays.

mohater, thanks for your encouragement. At this point, i will be disappointed if score below 720, even more so if I score below 700. That is why I want to know whether I am missing something. I am looking for a 700+ score, and my target schools, so far, are Duke, Michigan, and Cornell. If I can score even higher, may be I can apply to some other top schools.

good point, mohater re: setting up the failure part.

However, I have read on this forum that some candidates were asked to improve their score even though they had scores in the 680-690 range.

i am not sure if school actually asked them from 680-690 to retake but yes i do see quite a few people retaking from that range just because they felt they needed to be more competitive...
