Preparing for B-School-Harvard Business Review

So as I prepare to transition from my non-profit work to b-school, I know I'm a bit behind in my business knowledge. Therefore, in recent weeks I've been thinking about how to properly prepare myself for school. A colleague of mine recently was about to throw out a year's worth of 05/06 Harvard Business Reviews. I said I wouldn't mind having them and have paged through a few of them. My questions to the knowledgable GMATCLUB throng are-
Would reading these especially the Case Study section help me in my prep for b-school?
If so, how helpful are they?

Just wanting to get an idea from those who maybe have more business experience or know people in business school to how helpful they may be. I realize they don't provide the up to the date business news of various other websites/magazines but will the theoretical aspect of them help me out.

It will help you become more aware of the current business climate and prevailing management thought. Eventually, this will help you in your interviews when you attend b-school. I highly recommend reading the economist as well.

That's my hope. Thanks for your thoughts.

I also wonder how the HBR Case Study relates to a normal b-school case study. I've never seen a MBA case study so I wondered if they are similar or not even close.

Most schools use HBS cases for their classes. The only difference that I can think of is that the case will be presented more succintly in the magazine with less data as opposed to the cases which will be handed out in class.

I discussed this issue with a friend of mine who's a Stanford GSB grad. He said: "you don't need to read FT of WSJ on a daily basis. You can, but sooner rather than later you wouldn't have time for that. Instead, read The economist AND HBR on a weekly basis and you'll know all you need to know."

So that's that.

Well it looks like I will stick to my plan of reading about a year's worth of HBR before the next Harry Potter comes out :) Thanks for the thoughts.
