I think rhyme and other 1st years are strongly recommended NOT to over-prepare... I remember a thread about that somewhere. :P All I'm doing is researching what VC's are all about.
That was:
rhyme: sleep well.

Read some interesting books in the area that you want to study. You can't go wrong with "Barbarian's at the Gate", it's a classic book for the finance library. Or, if you do not know what you want to do, read the Vault Guides, it might give you an idea of investment banking, consulting, private equity, etc.

I was mostly being a little silly, but I stand by that all the same. Really what I mean is just relax - you'll be very busy soon enough (though I'm finally at the point where I can attend more events cause I've "figured out" how to study efficiently again - my goal for next week is to attend: Tuesday Night Downtown Drinking Club, Wednesday Lunch and Learn, Wednesday MCG Drinking Event, Thursday evening Invitation Recruiting Event, Friday lunch BBQ, Friday LPF, we'll see if I pull it off)

If I were to do it again, the only thing I'd do differently is start thinking a bit more critically about what I want to recruit for for my internship - maybe talk to a few people in different industries and try and narrow my list a bit before I hit campus. (Granted I had some pretty broad interests - "strategy, general mgmt, VC/PE, but not consulting, and not banking, though maybe IM looks like interesting". If you have a narrow list already, this probably wont apply).

I should have reached out to friends and family that work in these areas and learned more earlier so I could hit campus more focused. A good goal would have been to have one phone call a week with someone in one of those industries.

What I wouldn't do is: buy a stats book, or read accounting, or take a prep course, or spend hours on my resume or cover letters or try to learn investments or anything else that requires substantial continued effort.

what rhyme said.

I'm pretty much going to talk to people in industries I'm interested in, learn what VCs are about, and get my story set up (in my head) on how to apply for the VC fellowships at Haas. Other than that, I'm already traveling and relaxing... :P

After receiving my Tuck Welcome Package the other day (yey) I am now convinced that NOT preparing may be okay at lesser business schools (read: all others... :punk ) but will not get you very far at Tuck. They even gave us access to mbamath.com and several practice tests to gauge our skill levels in four areas.

So I will after all do some preparing, because I just know it will help me to get my mind settled on some math problems... it will be too late once I start school and am confronted with higher statistics.
