I have seen conflicting ideas on prethinking in CR vs not prethinking. Whats the more efficient approach? I am not habituated to pre-thinking so it will be a skill I will have to develop

Good question. We’ve had lots of arguments and battles about pre-thinking. It seems to be a very passionate topic for some… part of the debate goes into what exactly pre-thinking entails. There are also many opinions about that and by many I mean 2 😂
Personally, what I found found helpful for easy and medium difficulty critical reasoning questions was answering the question in my own words before reading the answer choices. it made my success rate higher and it made me move faster.
However, answering the question in your own words before reading the answer choices does not work on hard critical reasoning questions because they are hard and because it doesn’t work. They are phrased and in a way that is not suitable and that is the limitation which I feel is totally fine because you will only face a small number of these harder critical reasoning questions and therefore you can use the answering in your own words approach quite easily.
I don’t know if this is rethinking or not, but I recommend answering the question in your own words as the most efficient and the most effective approach. I don’t know a better way frankly so even if you have to spend a couple days to learn the approach, I think it’s well worth it. What is your alternative?

Consider mentioning/including the types of CRs you struggle with. For CR assumption questions, for example, the negation technique could be useful.
